This week, we're taking it a step further by examining WHY we are reacting in a particular way.

Last week (Week 36), we talked about 'catching' your initial impressions or reactions, asking whether the situation IS or IS NOT within your control.

In Week 37's lesson from "The Handbook for New Stoics", you're challenged to take a pause and examine your automatic thoughts asking yourself:

  • "Is my impulse proportionate to the issue at hand?"
  • "Is it 'pro-social' (aka an acceptable way to react)?"
  • "Am I keeping my serenity in mind?
  • Is my reaction helping or hurting my peace of mind?"

Bottom line: Get comfortable with getting uncomfortable.
